Rozelle Brides Exhibition

While exploring the town of Balmain, I stumbled upon a hidden gem—a vintage photography exhibition at the local library. The exhibit contains stunning glass plate negatives of weddings taken during the Inter-war years: 1939 – 1945. The photos were taken in the Sidney Riley Photography Studio located in Rozelle, a lovely neighboring town. The wedding attire ranges from gorgeous gowns, to 40’s knee-length dresses, to military uniforms. There are lots of ideas in these images for those of you who are considering a vintage wedding. The flowers are just spectacular and I love the outfits on the flower girl and the ring bearer in the group photo (though, the kids do not look like they feel the same way)!  What a wonderful glimpse into a time gone by.

After 38 hours, one canceled international flight, and loading two planes three times, I finally arrived in Sydney, Australia to prepare for the birth of Amanda’s baby at the end of September. It was worth every minute to see my beautiful girl and her precious baby bump. There was a newly married couple on the plane with me and they were on their honeymoon. They could have been totally consumed with anger over the canceled flight but instead, they invited everyone in first and business class to a party in their hotel room (provided by the airline, :). Talk about making lemonade! The take away here is that we all eventually made it safely and we made the best of a bad situation. There is no such thing as a “perfect wedding.” You will probably experience a glitch or two and that is why it is important that you choose your village carefully. Choosing reputable wedding professionals and reliable family and friends to work with will ensure that all goes well behind the scenes and that you do not even notice the bumps in the road. Your attitude in responding to these bumps is also key. Work them out positively and professionally and your Big Day will be (or at least appear to be) perfect!

For the next few months, I will be exploring all things weddings from fabulous Oz—the trends, the hidden gems, and my favorite—treasure hunts.
